Dave & Buster's

To say I'm a video game fan would be a bit of an understatement, so keep that in mind.

My father used to take my sister and I to this D&B a lot when I was younger and we always had a wicked time with the games and the food, and then when I got older and we went back I was surprised to find we could still keep ourselves happily entertained.

I guess there's something both highly amusing and fulfilling about watching my 40 year old father shout and holler in excitement for hours on end.  Thanks Dave & Buster's for such a fond memory of my dad.

If you've got teens, this is a great place to spend time having fun WITH them.  But that's just my two cents. =)

Schelde's Grille & Spirits

I love Schelde's.

The broccoli and cheddar soup has always been one of my favorites, but they offer free meals on birthdays and certain holidays and so I find myself dinning there quite often.

It's not that the food is above and beyond, or the service is outstanding, but I've never really been disappointed either.  It's a nice place to go, relax, and have a good bite to eat.

Applebee's Neighborhood Grill & Bar

I called over the phone first to ask how big their largest Oreo shakes were so that I could order enough for my party and I was assured they were "Oh, way huge" and "over thirty-two fluid ounces". Great, so I ordered three. When I got there to pick them up, what I saw horrified me and I said outloud, 'Those better not be mine."

They were seven fl oz each. For the same price I could have gotten a real "Oh, way huge" shake at Big Boy instead of the kiddie crap Applebee's pulled.

When I explained what I'd been told over the phone the bartender just looked at me and said, "Well, this is what size they are."

Awesome.
NOT.

The few times I've eaten at Applebee's I've never really been impressed, but this has done it for me. So long, Applebees.

The Underground Cheesecake Company

The Underground Cheesecake Company is a really tiny little bakery in downtown Traverse City that offers wedding cakes, lemon shortbread cookies, brownies, and their signature cheesecake (of course), white chocolate popcorn, and walnut pumpkin cake roll.

They also offer a small lunch selection that has nothing to do with baked goods and they always have a smile on their face.

I'm not a cheesecake fan, but if you are, and you're in Traverse City, what are you waiting for?

Mabel's Restaurant

Aside from the crowds of old people, the food is pretty good. I hadn't really enjoyed Mabel's until just a recent visit, where I had two huge pumpkin pancakes, eggs, bacon, and hashbrowns all for $6.50!!

Good food for a great price sells me.

It seems like it's one of those fancy pants, too-expensive-for-me-even-in-my-dreams type boutique, but ladies let me assure you- it's not. Just this weekend they had a pair of gorgeous and comfortable plaid heels for $22 and then you can get another pair of shoes for $10.00. They also had two shirts for $10. Decent, stylish, cute clothing. I love it in here.

I haven't actually seen a film here yet, but the renovation was extraordinary! It's so exciting to see it come to life and entertaining the community. One of the first few nights they were showing a Lord of the Rings marathon! I'm excited, needless to say.

My favorite cafe downtown. The prices a bit more reasonable than most other places and the selection includes several vegetarian choices as well. The service is excellent and the food delicious.

Crema!

Crema! is by far one of the better quality cafes in down Traverse City. The service is friendly, fast, and has a very eclectic menu. Everything tastes better here than the others downtown and the prices are right in range.

It's totally worth it to stop by if you're downtown.

This store is for the usual "New Age" crowd, however it should be noted that the items in here aren't exactly in the greatest of shape. There are some cute finds in here, more specifically the jewelry selection is nice. The book selection is slim, and for books I'd recommend Borders or Higher Self. The prices are good on some things, making it very competitive with Higher Self, but again, some of the items are a bit wishy-washy. They did just open, however, so I'm willing to give them another glance in the future to see how things shape up.
